God’s Love Is Buoyant

This morning, before my feet even touched the floor, the very first thought that filled my mind was this: “God’s love is buoyant.”

I knew immediately it was from the Spirit, nudging me to write.

Have you ever said or even just felt: “I’m drowning”?

I have.

Sometimes it’s the only way I can describe the weight of busyness, the feeling of being stretched too thin, or the fear that life is spinning out of control. “I’m drowning.”

The truth is, we’ve all been drowning for a long time. Since the floodwaters of Noah’s day (& even before then) the world has been spiritually submerged in sin. Evil fills the waters we wade every single day.

But His love is both literally and spiritually buoyant

Literally—because of the ark. When the world drowned, God’s mercy lifted Noah & his family above the floodwaters.

Spiritually—because of Jesus. This world is still flooded, not with literal water but with sin. Yet His cross is our greater ark, carrying us safely through the storm.

Jesus is our lifebuoy

His love is the life preserver that will not let us go under. He doesn’t just throw us a lifebuoy from a distance, He steps right into the waters with us, reaches out His hands & hold us up, & keeps us buoyant above the waves.

Just like when peter was walking on water & started to literally sink from fear of the wind & waves:

“Come,” he said. Then Peter got down out of the boat, walked on the water and came toward Jesus. But when he saw the wind, he was afraid and, beginning to sink, cried out, “Lord, save me!” Immediately Jesus reached out his hand and caught him. “You of little faith,” he said, “why did you doubt?” – Matthew‬ ‭14‬:‭29‬-‭31‬ ‭

The seas may rage. The floods may rise. The world may press in with its relentless storm of sin & sorrow. But God’s love is buoyant—it always rises above the waters. It keeps us afloat when our own strength fails.

So today, if you feel like you’re barely keeping your head above water, remember this: you are held by a love that will not let you sink.

in love,

kortney sue
