Spiders have taken over our grandpa’s garage (where we currently live while we build our house)
My life currently looks like the scene from snow white where she’s singing & cleaning the cottage of the seven dwarfs, that’s full of cobwebs.
In these hot summer days, I daily throw my long thick hair up on top of my head in a large top bun in an attempt to keep cool. That top bun is unintentionally “dusting” countless cobwebs just as the squirrels used their tails to twist up cobwebs in the dwarfs’ dirty, dusty cottage. Only I don’t have a smile on my face & I’m not “humming a merry tune” or “whistling while I work”.

But it’s not just in the garage, it’s EVERYWHERE!! I’ve become quite the web magnet! I walk through them, what feels like, 50 billion times a day! It is very disruptive & disturbing! I feel like tiny spiders are crawling all over me after I walk through one & I often find myself taking my hair bun down & frantically flopping my hair in hopes to sling spiders/webs out! I usually resort to jumping in the shower & changing my clothes to free myself of those resilient sticky webs.
Just moments before writing this, I walked through ANOTHER web & said “I CAN’T TAKE IT ANYMORE!” & in that moment, I understood; God was teaching me something with spider webs. So here I am learning, writing & sharing the lesson.
Spider webs are symbolic to the deceptive traps of worldly temptations. Just as a spider’s prey become entangled in the web, to be devoured by the spider, believers can also get trapped by the allure of sin. The spider capturing their prey is symbolic to Satan who seeks to ensnare believers.
“ Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour. Resist him, standing firm in the faith, because you know that the family of believers throughout the world is undergoing the same kind of sufferings. And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast. 1 Peter 5:8-10
The king of this world spins deceptive webs of lies, fear, anxiety, worry, insecurity, doubt, confusion, & anger (to name a few) to trick & trap us.
The enemy’s “webs” are everywhere we turn, sometimes we notice them and dodge them, other times we don’t see them until we have already walked into them for lack of vision &/or paying attention.
Once we walk into these webs, we become distracted & frantic, caught off-guard, frustrated, consumed, much like walking into a literal spider web.
Depending on how big the webs are & how fast we are walking into it, it can take some serious time & effort to get the webs & spiders off of us. It’s not until we’ve showered & put on fresh clothes that we finally feel clean & at ease.
The shower & clean clothes represent Jesus & the full armor of God
When we inevitably walk into the world’s webs let us wash in the wisdom & truth of Jesus who cleanses us & properly equips us for battle & gives us sight to spot the worlds “webs” & persevere.
& I pray that every time we walk into literal spider webs & clean them from every nook & cranny of our homes, that it will remind us of the spiritual war waging around us & become a warning to prepare for battle.
“But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus his Son cleanses us from all sin. If we say we have no sin, we deceive ourselves, and the truth is not in us. If we confess our sins, he is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and to cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” 1 John 1:7-9
“But the Lord is faithful, and he will strengthen you and protect you from the evil one.” 2 Thessalonians 3:3
“Finally, be strong in the Lord and in the strength of his might. Put on the whole armor of God, that you may be able to stand against the schemes of the devil. For we do not wrestle against flesh and blood, but against the rulers, against the authorities, against the cosmic powers over this present darkness, against the spiritual forces of evil in the heavenly places. Therefore, take up the whole armor of God, that you may be able to withstand in the evil day, and having done all, to stand firm. Stand therefore, having fastened on the belt of truth, and having put on the breastplate of righteousness, and, as shoes for your feet, having put on the readiness given by the gospel of peace. In all circumstances take up the shield of faith, with which you can extinguish all the flaming darts of the evil one; and take the helmet of salvation, and the sword of the Spirit, which is the word of God, praying at all times in the Spirit, with all prayer and supplication. To that end, keep alert with all perseverance, making supplication for all the saints,” Ephesians 6:10-18
