Metal Hymn

My in-laws got Tyler & I tickets to go see Metallica in concert with them this past weekend.  I’ve never really been a fan of metal music. My dad liked to listen to ACDC when I was growing up, that was probably the most “metal” I was exposed to. To be honest, when Tyler would play Metallica in the car, I would ask him to change it. I think I even said something along the lines of, “turn that satan music off”.

But then I had a dream.

One of those dreams that I knew was from God. When I woke up, I immediately grabbed my notebook to write it down. There was a song playing in the dream that I had recognized but didn’t know the name of. I thought I remembered Tyler playing it in the car before, so I asked him, what song goes: (attempted the opening of “For Whom the Bell Tolls”) “wer ner ner ner wer ner ner buna buna bonggg”.

Tyler told me the name & I searched it on YouTube & listened to it. After that dream I had, I could see God in the song. So, I listened to a few others & felt His Spirit speaking to me. (my favorite is “Nothing Else Matters” when I sing it, I sing it to Jesus).

That was when I started to seek God in everything. I started to ask him to reveal himself to me in all things! Things that seemingly have nothing to do with Him. God can & will reveal himself to you in unlimited ways if we only ask & seek.

When Metallica started to play “Nothing Else Matters” (which I’m convinced is a love song about Jesus) all the lights went blue, the color of the sky AKA heaven, & it started to rain a misty beautiful rain. Just enough rain that you could feel it on your face and see it in the stage light beams. Everyone started to turn on their cell phone flashlights & wave them. For a moment I felt like I was up in the night sky amongst the stars.

& I know it sounds crazy…but I worshiped Jesus right there in the midst of 75,000 + people at a Metallica concert.

I sang at the top of my lungs to Jesus.

I lifted my face to heaven in worship & welcomed the rain drops on my face which felt like a thousand kisses from Heaven.

& I know I’m cheesy, but I believe God sent that rain for me. It began to fall right when they started that song & it stopped right when they finished that song.

I wondered if Metallica knew they were leading worship. & I prayed that the whole stadium would feel the presence of God & come to know Jesus.

I’m not saying I like every song that Metallica does. I’m not saying you should learn from them or go to their concert. I am just sharing my personal experience & I hope that the spirit will touch you through these words I write.

As Christians I feel that we sometimes put God in a box. “God is only glorified through Christian music, Christian movies, Sunday morning church, etc.”

All those things can be wonderful & powerful! But I believe that God shows up where He is invited, even in the dark! -Especially in the dark!

Two quotes just came to mind from two different movies that I’ve watched recently both have “nothing to do with the gospel” but I beg to differ. I see the gospel in both of these: Star Wars & Harry Potter

In Obi-Wan Kenobi, Obi-Wan uses the analogy of being afraid of the dark to explain what the Force feels like to Leia. He asks, “Have you ever been afraid of the dark?”, Leia says she has, He then asks, “How does it feel when you turn on the light?”, Leia replies, “It feels safe.” Obi-Wan says, “That’s how the force feels”.

& the Famous Dumbledore quote from Harry Potter:

“Happiness can be found even in the darkest of times, if one only remembers to turn on the light”

When you pray & shift your mindset, I believe you will see God is all around us in everything.

Afterall, He is THE Truth of this world. The creation of it, the ways of it, it all stems from The Creator & what is in heaven. Even the fallen angels & Lucifer is a creation of God & the “wisdom” they brought to the earth had to come from what was taught & allowed by God, even though He never intended for man to know the things they taught.

“For everything comes from him and exists by his power and is intended for his glory. All glory to him forever! Amen.” Romans 11:36

The battle is now won because of Jesus. It is finished because of Jesus. & He is The Light that enables us to see in the darkness of this fallen world.

“The Word gave life to everything that was created, and his life brought light to everyone. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness can never extinguish it.” John 1:4-5

Oh!

I almost forgot!

As we were walking up to the stadium to attend the concert, we walked past a man putting up salvation signs. He had kittens and rabbits for people to hold with signs like “No Bunny loves you like Jesus” & “Jesus is my Savior, Cats are my therapy”. My sister-in-law, Emerson, & I stopped to hold a cat & my MIL captured the moment.
