We drove my vintage VW camper bus, Willa, to the Tarheel Antique Festival in search of old treasure troves for our “in progress” houses.
I’ve always appreciated & preferred vintage & antique over contemporary & brand new. I think it adds so much character & depth to a home! Each piece telling a story & bearing the wear of its age — & though every piece has an old story to tell, I love how the story picks back up the moment I bring it home, bringing their history into our present-time & making new stories/memories with my family!
I’ve always been drawn to “old stuff”. Ever since I was a young girl, going to thrift shops, yard sales, & estate auctions with my dad & grandparents was always such a treat! I enjoy the history & lesson each piece tells, as it teaches me of a simpler time, in many ways (especially the ways that matter).
Yes, I’ve learned a lot from “old stuff”. It has a way of humbling me & bringing me “back to reality”. It has taught me humility, appreciation, frugality, & creativity.
I’m grateful for the lessons I’ve learned & the lessons I’m still learning.
As I’m collecting for our new house, I’ve been reminiscing of when I first moved to NC & the large collection of “old stuff” I had when I first met Tyler (we had to pack a U-Haul truck to the brim). I have since gotten rid of much of that first collection of relics (I’m not a hoarder, after all) & have started a new one as a family & for our family.
A collection that tells a story beyond bygones — a story of love & faith, of persistence & endurance, of compassion & creativity…. the story of us.
& so, the story & history continues as we dust off our found treasures from days of old & bring them into our new & now.
& so I say,
In with the old & out with the new💛
