Building a house isn’t what I thought it was going to be. I thought it would be quicker, easier, more enjoyable. Through it all, I’m starting to realize just how imperfect life is. No matter how much we dream, pin perfect pictures on Pinterest, & follow inspiring influencers on social media. The reality is unmet expectations & just plain imperfection.
This is a fallen world. A fallen world is not perfect. It’s not always what Hollywood portrays, what’s pictured in magazines/social media, & most certainly always falls short of my hopes and dreams.
As more “imperfections” & unexpected changes come as we build our house, immense anger will often flood my heart & cloud my thoughts.
I pray that God will help me to let go of the anger & frustration & remind me of what is true.
The more I let go of my desires & dreams for this house, the more I see the truth. When things aren’t as I had hoped or would have chosen, I give it to God & ask & believe that he will still use it for good.
Every imperfection is a reminder to me that nothing is perfect in this fallen world, that this fallen world is not our home & that Jesus is coming soon to make all things new.
“Do not love this world nor the things it offers you, for when you love the world, you do not have the love of the Father in you. For the world offers only a craving for physical pleasure, a craving for everything we see, and pride in our achievements and possessions. These are not from the Father but are from this world. And this world is fading away, along with everything that people crave. But anyone who does what pleases God will live forever.”
1 John 2:15-17
““Don’t store up treasures here on earth, where moths eat them and rust destroys them, and where thieves break in and steal. Store your treasures in heaven, where moths and rust cannot destroy, and thieves do not break in and steal. Wherever your treasure is, there the desires of your heart will also be.”
Matthew 6:19-21
“For this world is not our permanent home; we are looking forward to a home yet to come.”
Hebrews 13:14
“So we don’t look at the troubles we can see now; rather, we fix our gaze on things that cannot be seen. For the things we see now will soon be gone, but the things we cannot see will last forever.”
